FAU-Nyt - September 2019

Siden sidste FAU Nyt har FAUs værtskab for The 5th Nordic Conference on Development været i fokus.

5th Nordic Conference on Development Research 27-28 June

FAU hosted the 5th Nordic Conference on Development Research 27-28 June at CBS. The conference was the culmination of two years of intense planning between Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish partners. We (FAU and our sister organisations NFU and FSDR along with the upcoming SDRN - Swedish Development Research Network) have agreed to continue the series of Nordic conferences on development research and start the 2nd circle by bringing it back to Copenhagen where it began in 2011.

The conference entitled ‘Knowledge Production in North-South Collaboration: Challenges in an Era of New Global Divides’ was a success in many ways. The conference was very well attended. The 150 participants included researchers and practitioners from the participating Nordic countries as well as from many research institutions in the Global South. Delicious, climate friendly, and plentiful nourishment, very helpful student support, and great keynote presentations by Gurminder Bhambra (Sussex University) and Melissa Leach (IDS, Sussex) along with 14 diverse panels ensured a most enjoyable and fruitful occasion for knowledge exchange and networking.

Special cooperation with the Danida Fellowship Centre added another dimension to the conference with a focus on the Danida Alumni, the annual Danida Fellow Alumni Award and reception at CBS followed by a leisurely walk in sunny Frederiksberg to dinner and speeches in the garden of the Danida Fellowship Centre (Read more about DFCs involvement here).

We would like to thank all the participants for their contributions, while we appreciate the funding and contribution provided by the Norwegian Research Council, Danida and Center for Business and Development Studies (CBDS, CBS). The work ensuring that we can meet again for the 6th Joint Nordic Development Research Conference in Finland in 2021 has now started.
